The Importance of Glass and Food Scrap Recycling
Only ~30-35% of glass is recycled in the US. That means roughly two-thirds (65–70%) of glass is not recycled and ends up in the landfill or discarded as litter. Using recycled glass to make new containers conserves raw materials, reduces energy use, and lowers CO2 emissions. In fact, for every six tons of recycled glass used to manufacture new bottles and jars, one ton of carbon dioxide emissions is avoided.
Uneaten food is the single largest component of municipal solid waste, taking up almost 25% of our nation's landfills. In landfills, food gradually breaks down to form methane, a greenhouse gas that’s up to 86 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Composting organic waste from households and businesses can help eliminate an enormous portion of harmful off-gassing from landfills.

We are proud to offer glass, aluminum, and food scrap collection services for the restaurants, businesses, institutions, and organizations of Madison County. Fill out our online form, and our Commercial Services Representative will follow up to help you assess your business’s precise recycling needs, draw up a service contract, and get your services started.
​Services include delivery and pickup of one or more material-specific bins/wheeled carts at the requested collection frequency for all of your commercial recycling needs.
