Chattanooga Kiosk Compost Trial
Registration Now Open!
Be part of a city-supported effort to reduce food waste in Chattanooga. This limited trial, funded by the City of Chattanooga and a TDEC grant, gives residents the opportunity to compost their food scraps using secure drop-off kiosks at local recycling centers. The Trial is scheduled to start October 15th and ends July 31st.
Who Can Join?

You must live within the City of Chattanooga (not just nearby). Your address will be used to qualify.

Capped at 250 participants
Kiosk Locations
You can drop off your compost at one of the five participating recycling centers:

5955 Brainerd Rd (Brainerd Recycling Center)

1250 E. 3rd St (Zoo Recycle Center)

3189 Cummings Hwy (Lookout Valley Recycling Center)

8004 Batters Place Rd (Hamilton Place Recycle Center)

4504 N. Access Rd (Dupont Recycle Center)
You can only use the one that you select during sign up so remember which one you select.
During sign-up, you will choose your main location.

This is where your bucket and any liners will be delivered

It also allows us to contact members at that kiosk if there are issues like contamination

It will allow us to collect data for each location and provide each with the correct amount of bins

How It Works

Sign up and create your NewTerra Compost account
-
Choose a recycling center where we’ll deliver your bucket
-
Use your bucket to collect food scraps and drop them off at the recycling center you selected

Access the kiosk lock code anytime by logging into your account
Codes may change during the trial, so members must be able to log in to view the current code.
What Can I Compost?
If you can eat it, we can compost it!
You can include:

All food scraps (meat, dairy, bones, fruits, vegetables, coffee grounds, etc.)

BPI, CMA, or TUV certified compostable products (must be labeled)
🛑 Do not include plastic, trash, liquids, glass, or metal.
When in doubt, throw it out!

Buckets, Liners, and Supplies

Each participant receives one NewTerra Compost bucket and one compostable liner

You are responsible for your own bucket

Liners are optional but makes cleaning easier

Additional compostable liners and approved products can be purchased:

In your online NewTerra account

Delivered to your selected kiosk

Or purchased elsewhere (must have a visible BPI, CMA, or TUV certification)
